Questions people actually ask

Do I need a referral?
No. You can walk in or book directly online. Our pharmacist immunisers can administer COVID-19 vaccines without a referral.
Is COVID-19 vaccination compulsory?
No. COVID-19 vaccination in Australia is free and voluntary. It is available to Medicare cardholders, non-Medicare cardholders, and most visa holders. While vaccination is not compulsory, some workplaces or travel destinations may have their own requirements. Speak with your pharmacist if you have questions about what applies to your situation.
Who is eligible for a free COVID-19 vaccine?

From 1 October 2026, free COVID-19 vaccines are available through the National Immunisation Program for:1

  • Adults aged 75 years and over: two doses each year, given approximately 6 months apart.
  • Adults aged 65 to 74 years: one dose each year.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 to 74 years: one dose each year.
  • Adults aged 18 to 64 years with severe immunocompromise: one dose each year.

Some eligible people may be recommended additional doses based on their individual circumstances. Speak with your pharmacist or other healthcare professional about the vaccination schedule that is appropriate for you.

What if I am not eligible for a free vaccine?
Private COVID-19 vaccines are coming soon. For now, we only offer COVID-19 vaccines under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for eligible people. Your pharmacist can talk through your options.
How do I know the COVID-19 vaccine is safe?
Before any COVID-19 vaccine is used in Australia, it must be approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). The TGA assesses each vaccine for safety, quality, and effectiveness before it can be registered for use. It is one of the most thorough approval processes in the world.2
Are there side effects?
Side effects are usually mild and short-lived. The most commonly reported include pain at the injection site, mild fever, and muscle aches. Your pharmacist will walk you through what to expect before your vaccination. The benefits of protection against severe COVID-19 illness significantly outweigh the risk of minor side effects.2
Do you vaccinate children?
Not at the moment. The NIP COVID-19 vaccines we offer are for adults in the groups listed above. Private COVID-19 vaccines are coming soon. Speak with your pharmacist about your child's options.
Can I get a COVID-19 and flu vaccine at the same appointment?
Yes. Co-administration of COVID-19 and influenza vaccines is safe and is generally recommended by ATAGI where both are due at the same time.1 It is a convenient way to stay up to date with both in a single visit.
Can I walk in without booking?
Yes. Walk-ins are welcome at Malvern Road and Wattletree Road, subject to pharmacist availability. If you would like to guarantee a time, you can book ahead online in a couple of minutes.
How long does the appointment take?
Most appointments take under 30 minutes. This includes a brief health check with your pharmacist, the vaccination itself, and a required 15-minute observation period in store afterwards. We recommend arriving 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

1 Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI). Recommendations for COVID-19 vaccination. Australian Immunisation Handbook. immunisationhandbook.health.gov.au

2 Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. tga.gov.au

NIP eligibility is subject to current ATAGI and Department of Health and Aged Care recommendations, which are updated periodically. Speak with your pharmacist to confirm current eligibility and recommended dosing schedule for your circumstances. Participating pharmacies only. Please arrive 5 minutes before your appointment. A 15-minute observation period is required after vaccination. While stocks last.
